Shadows Over Felgate: Shadows approach

A psychic shudder shakes the city of Vaedominus as a burst of light appears from the Telepathica district. A message has been sent off-world…but it has become clear that the world is shrouded from the light of the Astronomican.

The towers of the Telepathica act as an effective landmark when the streets line up properly in Vaedominus and looking at these three towers now reveals that something is very wrong here –  a great arcane symbol hangs in the air above the towers, a sinister mark of corruption.

Exactly what message was sent off-world was unclear, but all of you receive a response in some form or another: The response is essentially that reinforcements are on their way.

Team Sanctus have been awarded 3 additional campaign points for completing a secret objective.

Team Sanctus will be defining the next escalation level and whether it will be 1,400pts, 1,500 pts, or 1,600 pts.

As the shudders of this psychic pulse die down, you all collectively feel a sense of darkness descend, as if Felgate’s sun is partially obscured.

All psychic tests are at a -1 to cast for this week, and all Deny The Witch tests gain a +1 modifier.

Shadows Over Felgate: Final round of Act 1

This week (4/11/2019) will be the final round in Act 1 of Shaodws Over Felgate. The next phase will require a new list at a points level to be defined as mentioned above!

  • Your list may be completely different from the 1,000pt list if you wish, but it is preferable to have some consistency.
  • If you stuck with the same 1,000pt list for the entirety of Act 1, you will gain the “Vaedominus Veterans” bonus and be awarded +1 CP at the beginning of each subsequent match.
  • Act 2 will begin on 18/11/2019 – allowing a week of down time for people to build new lists and generally have some non-campaign games if they wish!

Dispatches from Tuhinga 56: One Removed From Ecstasy

Whilst the Tyranids approach, forces desperately scramble to harvest strange glowing crystals. Between the ravenous jaws of these alien dervishes, the clash of battle and the unpleasant other-ness of the planet in general, survivors of these battles return to their fleets as hardened veterans.

Forces clash on Biss over outcrops of beguiling glowing crystals that are wrenched from the ground by multiple forces including at least one Chaos rhino crewman. Meanwhile, the other crystal-filled planet, Krystallia, sees continued interest with more fighting breaking out, but Team Salvation retains its stranglehold.

Close battles were fought between Nathan and Leo with Nathan finishing with a two point lead and Will and Nigel also fought a close battle with Will finishing with a two point lead.

The outcome of Nicky and David’s battle was defined by a single failed psychic power in turn one and a handful of dice rolls at the end of turn five, and Rob defeated Denis’ Necrons, despite them wiping out most of the cult’s heavy hitters early on. Finally, Max overran Chris’s highly mobile Chaos force who really weren’t expecting to have to stand still and defend things.

Forces in Tuhinga are not entirely sure where the next hammer will fall. Biss appears to be going through some changes after the initial skirmishes there, something continues to tick away on Arrakanis and the warp storms over Tuhinga Prime have cleared up with rag-tag fleet of beleaguered ships appearing near this planet.

Next week will be the final 1,500 game that will round out phase two of the Tuhinga Enigma!

Know your place: Plasma League and IBWG Rank

So who would win in a fight? You or that other guy that seems to be stomping through all of their games?

Let’s find out with a shop-wide player ranking system!

Introducing Plasma League*

This one’s a little bit different from the Escalation League and Kill Team leagues that are currently in full swing – this league will run throughout the year, resetting on January 1st, and will be a way of tracking all 40k games played in the shop.

If you play a 40K game at Ibuywargames and report the score in some kind of group chat that I can see, you’re in the league!

The league will be split into three classes:

  • Lightweight class for 750-1,250pt games
  • Middleweight class for 1,251-1,750pt games
  • Heavyweight for 1,750+ point games*

The results of this will then contribute towards your IBWG Rank, giving us a seeding list for how well players are currently performing in games.

Does the rank mean anything? Beyond bragging rights and an encouragement of some friendly competition, not much! It might however be handy for doubles matchups and can introduce a little friendly rivalry for those of us that aren’t quite ready to chase after an ITC ranking or anything like that.

how do you calculate the IBWG Rank?

Crucially, this is a prototype and can be updated, tweaked and I’m more than happy to listen to suggestions – it’s meant to be a friendly ranking system so if there’s anything that discourages play or encourages a certain type of weird meta-gaming for some reason, it should be killed with fire.

You gain points from your win/loss ratio, with the number of games played being a tiebreaker.

The formula I’m running with now is:

(2x Wins + Draws) – (2x Losses) = IBWG points

Ranking decided by highest to lowest points, number of games played decides ties.

The points are accumulated from all classes of game, but you’ll also have data as to who is on top in the different sizes of game.

If you want to start throwing results of any one-off games my way, I’ll start throwing it into the site and start building a ranking list!

It’s going to be pretty empty right now, but things will be tracked on the page accessible from the menu titled IBWG Rank.

Let the games begin-and-be-tracked!

Additional Notes:

*Why plasma league? Well everyone loves Plasma weapons – they are versatile, consistent, and yet have an element of randomness to them and always run the risk of exploding horribly. I felt that was apt.

**Being the excellent gamers that you are, you will immediately notice you could possibly mess this up by playing exclusively 1,251 point games to gain Middleweight points….maybe just don’t do that! Be sensible about what class your game is in! A 1,251 point game is let’s face it a 1,250 point game really. If someone has a better way to articulate this, please let me know!
